What's a meaningful resolution? What resolutions I can make and keep for the year 2020? How can I achieve new year's resolutions?

With the arrival of the new year, people start focusing on the new year resolutions, new habits and ways to make their new year more productive, happy and prosperous. To make this happen, most of the people choose certain new year’s resolutions i.e. habits and promises of doing the new task or the same task but in a different way. But the problem with these promises is that they are easy to make and difficult to follow. Hence most of the people fail in meeting their new year’s resolution.

Hence, when people lose focus from their promises and resolutions than those promises and resolutions lose meaning and purpose. A meaningful new year’s resolution is the one which you achieve by the end of the target period. Hence, every resolution is meaningful if you want to achieve and if you achieve the same. However, once you lose focus or drop the pursuit behind that new year’s resolution then it becomes meaningless just like words on a paper lying in a garbage bin.

As we know that to make any resolution a meaningful one we need to focus on the same and we need to achieve the same. Now the prime most and important point is the focus over that task. Most of the people lose interest or focus over that task. They stop the pursuit of its achievement once they get off the track. Hence, today we have brought you ways and tricks which will help you in achieving the consistency in adherence to your new year resolutions so that you can achieve the within the decided timeframe.

Following are the ways and tricks which will help you in achieving your target:

1. Writing down and keeping with oneself:

Writing down the goals in an organiser or goal book or calender helps very much. It gives you a clear sight that these are the task you need to perform. Further, if you can, then you should keep the list of your new year’s resolutions always in front of you like affixing on your desk wall or on your refrigerator or in your bedroom or on your study table or etc. By keeping always in front of your eyes you will always remember the story why this task you have selected for new year’s resolution and that will definitely give you kick and motivation to perform the same. 

2. Break bigger goals into smaller ones:

By breaking down the bigger goals into the smaller one will motivate you to achieve it. This happens because bigger goals take time to achieve during which most of the people get frustrated. However, if you will break your goals into smaller ones and focus on them then you will start achieving the smaller goals soon than the bigger ones and this will keep you motivated to go on. Further, you will also get clarity as to what all task I need to perform and this will happen by breaking down the bigger goals into a minute detailed plan of smaller goals.

3. Eliminate Distractions:

Distractions are the biggest cause of all the failure in achieving the new year’s resolutions. Be it the fast and Junk food in case of being healthy and active new year’s resolution or be it Facebook in focused studying throughout the year. Hence, it is foremost and critically important to eliminate all the distractions. We can overcome distractions by increasing focus and concentration. Further, people can also remove the distracting factor from the equation of life if the said new year resolution is very important.

For example, if the distraction is Facebook then delete the Facebook account, if the distraction is TV then get rid of the cable till the time you achieve your goal.

4. Stay Healthy and Sleep Appropriately:

As it is also written in Bhagwad Gita’s 

Chapter 6 and Shlokha 6 : बन्धुरात्मात्मनस्तस्य येनात्मैवात्मना जित: |अनात्मनस्तु शत्रुत्वे वर्ते तात्मैव शत्रुवत् ॥6॥

“For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his very mind will be the greatest enemy.” 

Hence we need to take charge of our mind and we need to train our mind to make him focus over the task and resolutions.

In order words, we need to bring discipline into our life. Now the question becomes how to bring the discipline in our life. Again I will try to explain the same by one of the Shlokha from Bhagwad Geeta

Chapter 6 Shlokha 16: नात्यश्नतस्तु योगोऽस्ति न चैकान्तमनश्नत: | न चाति स्वप्नशीलस्य जाग्रतो नैव चार्जुन ॥16॥

“There is no possibility of one’s becoming a yogi, O Arjuna, if one eats too much, or eats too little, sleeps too much or does not sleep enough.”

Under this Verse, Lord Krishna is saying that the person cannot become the Yogi or bring discipline in his or her life if he eats less or more than the appropriate or if he sleeps less or more than the required. Now, one will wonder, what is appropriate eating? Appropriate eating is the food consumption in such quantity which keeps us fit and fine. Simple as that. If you eat appropriate, you will remain fit and fine. And now appropriate sleep? Appropriate Sleep means on an average of 6 hours sleep in a day. Now the question will arise that what eating and sleeping have to do with achieving the task and resolutions. It is very simple, if you are healthy you are wealthy and it is said that fit is required to focus. In the same way, if you are sleep deprived then your mind will not work properly and you will not be able to focus on your task and thinking. And if you have overslept then you will become lazy as the body loses energy in sleep also. Hence, laziness will hamper negatively to your new year’s resolution.

5. One thing at a time:

Unless you are very talented in handling multitasking you should focus on one thing at a time. For eg: In your goal for staying active and healthy, you should focus on going gym. However, most people shift the thinking from one resolution to another. For eg: one minute they will think about going to the gym on another minute they will think about studying hard. This approach is totally wrong. Unless and until you haven’t completed the small goal allowed out of bigger resolution, you shouldn’t focus on completing another goal.
